Checking Out Library Materials

In order to check out library materials, you must have your library card with you. Any fines or fees must be paid before you can check out items, and items that are overdue must be returned promptly. There are limits on some materials. A patron must be 18 years old to check out videos.

Items may be checked out as follows:

Lost & Damaged Materials

Materials that are lost or damaged should be reported promptly to the library. For materials that are lost, a replacement fee, as well as a processing fee, will be charged. If an item is returned to the library damaged, a fee may also be charged for the cover, barcode label, etc.

Overdue Materials

Items that are overdue should be promptly returned to the library. Fines are assessed to the patron's card and may prevent the patron from checking out further materials until the fines are paid.

Renewing Materials

Books, magazines, audio books and CD's may be renewed up to 3 times, as long as another patron has not reserved them. DVD's may be renewed one time. Items may be renewed in person, by phone or through your patron account on our website; You must have a password set up ahead of time in order to do this.

 

Reserving Materials

If a book is already checked out or has not been published yet, you may reserve it. When the book comes in, you will be called. You have 7 days from the time we notify you to come in and pick up your book. For more information on reserves, please contact Adult Services.

 

Returning Material

All items checked out at the Danville Public Library should be returned promptly to the library. Patrons are requested to come in and drop off materials when the library is open. For after-hours, materials may be returned in the drop boxes located at the parking lot entrance (near the door). Drop boxes are open 24 hours a day for your convenience. All items are due by closing time of the due date. Any items that are placed in the drop boxes after closing time are considered overdue.
